Starring: This was one of porn's first attempts to lure a wider audience, particularly female home video consumers who wanted more romance and storyline with their humping. The story is the familiar tale of the struggling up and coming singer, played here by Shauna Grant, and her trouble remaining loyal to her band and hard-as-nails manager John Leslie.

One of the more expensive films produced in the early 1980s, and it shows. If the plot had been less cliched, this might have become the classic of its reputation.

Watching sweet Shauna in anything is erotic, even when she screwing an icy Leslie. But beware. Ron Jeremy has a large part (pun intended) as Leslie's groupie-screwing bodyguard. He does an early scene in a limo that's both arousing and discomforting. The sex here gets rough.

The performances carry the film. Leslie may be a bully, but he'll make women melt. And what can I say about Shauna? Her naivete gives the film its heart. The supporting cast members, like Sharon Mitchell as Shauna's competition, and Joey Silvera as her concerned guitarist, add depth to a musty plot.

The story offers nothing new. Even the ending, involving Shauna's deal to play a private party for a millionaire mobster, takes predictable twists.

An 8. Not bad, but not the classic promised.
