After School Specials 1976-1977 Description: "Includes:

"Francesca, Baby (1976)
ABC After School Special's fifth-season opener is the first of the series' episodes to focus on AlaTeen, an organization for the teenaged children of alcoholics. Ever since her father walked out, 15-year-old Francesca James (Carol Jones) has been the unofficial head of her household, not only looking after her troubled younger sister, Jo Lynn (Elizabeth Herbert), but also her hard-drinking mother, Lillian (Melendy Britt). Informed of the existence of AlaTeen, the cynical Francesca laughs off the notion that the organization could possibly help her — and in fact insists she doesn't need any help. And then comes the terrible night when Francesca's mom, in another drunken stupor, falls asleep while smoking in bed....

"Beat the Turtle Drum (1977)
A sensitive young girl (Melissa Sue Anderson) gradually comes to terms with the accidental death of her younger sister. This ABC After School Special is based on the award-winning young adult novel by Constance Greene.

"The Pinballs (1977)
The protagonists of this ABC After School Special are three parentless children of divergent backgrounds, all of whom share the same foster home. All their lives, Carlie (Kristy McNichol), Harvey (Johnny Doran), and Thomas J. (Sparky Marcus) have been "pinballs," bouncing around from one foster family to another. Now that they have settled into one happy home, will the situation be permanent — or are they doomed to be "pinballs" for all time?

"Trouble River (1977)
In this ABC After School Special a tough-minded adolescent boy and his even tougher grandmother brave a wild river, assaults from Indians and renegade settlers, and other perils while escaping an attack on their home in the boy's parents' absence."
