After School Specials 1978-1979 Movie

After School Specials 1978-1979 Description: "Includes Episodes:

"It's a Mile from Here to Glory (1978)
Young Early McLaren (Steve Shaw) is too shy and withdrawn to make friends. He is also a championship runner, who has never lost a track meet for his school. Despite his athletic accomplishments, Early remains aloof and arrogant, refusing to let anyone get close to him. But when the boy suffers a debilitating accident, he must learn how to stop running — stop running away from other people, and stop running away from himself.

"Thank You, Jackie Robinson (1978)
The year is 1947; the place, Brooklyn. Sammy is a shy 12-year-old white boy who has no father and few friends. Davy is a 60-year-old black cook, far from shy but also suffering from a variety of illnesses. These two very different but surprisingly kindred souls are ultimately bound together by their love of baseball in general — and their fascination with rookie Brooklyn Dodgers player Jackie Robinson in particular. A sensitive tale of friendship and racial tolerance, Thank You, Jackie Robinson (originally titled A Home Run for Love) is based on Barbara Cohen's novel.

"My Other Mother (1979)
Season eight of the ABC After School Special series gets under way with this powerful dramatization of an all-too-common dilemma. For the past six years, teenager Alexandria "Alex" Benton (Melissa Sue Anderson) has lived happily with her foster family, who hopes to adopt her. Suddenly and unexpectedly, Alex comes face to face with her natural mother. Forced to choose between the family that has loved and cared for her and a woman she doesn't even remember, Alex's confusion quickly degenerates into anger and resentment. This Emmy-winning episode was originally titled Which Mother Is Mine?.

"Gaucho (1978)
Panchito Gomez plays the title role in this compelling ABC After School Special. When his older brother reneges on his promise to take their mother back to Puerto Rico, Gaucho vows to raise enough money for the trip by whatever means he can. Unfortunately, this results in Gaucho taking a job as an errand boy for a two-bit hoodlum. Filmed on location in Spanish Harlem, Gaucho is based on a novel by Gloria Gonzalez."
